The reason I’m going is to do a 10-week leadership internship at a church called Mosaic in L.A. This church has been a part of shaping who my church, also, oddly enough, called Mosaic is becoming. Both of the Mosaics are about encouraging through friendship, inspiring through creativity and transforming through environment…rather than the more traditional ‘sit over there and listen to me preach at you and don’t even think of having a nap while you’re doing it‘ or ‘we’re a bit cultish and we all have our own t-shirts and we’re known for what we stand against rather than what we stand for‘ or ‘we sacrifice chickens here‘ church models around Aotearoa.
Both the leadership and the family of Mosaic (the kiwi one) have really hooked me up by providing this opportunity. Props.
My School, Te Akau ki Papamoa School has also been extremely gracious by letting me go, despite their fears that all the computers are going to rebel against them in a lord of the flies / terminator 3 kind of way. They’re cool because they always let people chase their dreams. Props.
This is something I’ve been looking forward to and dreaming about for a wee while now – really hopeful it’s a bit of a lifechanging / eye opening / culture shock-filled / challenging / exciting experience.
